The nose section of both the 284-140 and 284-160 are constructed the same and therefore can be expected to perform the same. The advantage of the 160-grain comes from its higher sectional density, which would provide a greater range of options as far as shot presentation. Also the 160 would be preferred for the heavier species the size of elk.
